MEMBERSHIP
To Join Canada Powerlifting (CANPL):
1. Check your eligibility:

To apply to become a Registrant, an individual must:
-
be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status or be in Canada on a work or study visa;
-
have made an application for membership in a manner prescribed by an Association Member or CANPL (using the esportsdesk link for your particular province below)
-
been approved by the CANPL Board or any committee or individual delegate given such authority (all applications are reviewed);
-
be in good standing with the applicable Association Member and CANPL;
-
paid all dues as prescribed by the applicable Association Member and CANPL; and
-
agrees to follow the rules and policies of the applicable Association Member and CANPL and indicates this in their application.

Except for the youth division and special Olympic Athletes, competitive or recreational Athletes must take the CCES online E-Learning Anti-Doping Tracked course and subsequent renewal course after each twelve (12) month period to maintain their status as a Registrant and compete at any CANPL or Association Member sanctioned event. Athletes may be required to upload the Certificate of Completion on the esportsdesk by before applying to be a Registrant.

If a candidate individual was previously an Athlete within powerlifting in another country other than Canada, then they are required to contact the CANPL Board board@powerlifting.ca to process the transfer and seek admission as a Registrant.

Acceptance or reinstatement as a Registrant is not automatic. It may be refused at the discretion of the CANPL Board. If circumstances warrant, the CANPL Board may impose additional conditions upon admission or readmission, such as a probationary period or other eligibility restrictions which the CANPL Board deems to be appropriate in the circumstances.

If a Registrant is from a non-affiliated province or is a Canadian citizen permanently residing in a foreign country and wishes to compete in a CANPL-sanctioned contest, they must obtain a membership card directly from the CANPL Registration Chairperson. Provincial registration chairpersons should never register a Registrant from outside their own province.

Individuals may only apply to become registrants through the province that they reside in.

Individuals on work or study visas cannot set national records or earn a spot on any national team.

Other individuals from IPF affiliate federations can participate in CANPL events as lifters or officials with permission from their federation, by showing proof of membership in good standing, but they will be listed as guest lifters.
2. Determine what type of membership you need:
CANPL Elite Membership
-
This level of membership allows you to compete at competitions sanctioned by your Provincial Association, Canada Powerlifting and International Powerlifting Federation.

This membership is required to set National Records, compete at CANPL Regionals or Nationals, and to compete on the National Team at IPF Competitions.
-
This is also for transgender athletes who have satisfactorily completed the IPF ́s Medical Commission‘s approval process to compete at CANPL Regional events and above.

In registering, you agree to abide by all CANPL Bylaws and Policies and acknowledge that qualifying standards and criteria will apply.

This membership can only be purchased in conjunction with a provincial registration.
CANPL Performance Membership

This level of membership allows you to compete at competitions sanctioned by your Provincial Association.

You are not eligible to set National Records or compete at CANPL Regionals or Nationals.

This is also for transgender athletes who have not completed the IPF ́s Medical Commission‘s approval process to compete at CANPL Regional events and above..

In registering, you agree to abide by all CANPL Bylaws and Policies.

This membership can only be purchased in conjunction with a provincial registration.
CANPL Youth Membership

This membership is for athletes ages 8 to 13 years old.

This level of membership allows you to compete at competitions sanctioned by your Provincial Association and Canada Powerlifting in accordance with the policies of CANPL.

In registering, you agree to abide by all CANPL Bylaws and Policies.

This membership can only be purchased in conjunction with a provincial registration.
CANPL Referee Membership

This level of membership allows you to participate as a referee in Provincial, National and International competitions with the correct qualifications.

It is not valid for competing.

This membership can only be purchased in conjunction with a provincial registration.

All Registrants with a Referee Membership are required to take the CCES online E-Learning Anti-Doping Tracked course and subsequent renewal course after each 12-month period, to maintain a current Certificate of Completion as a requirement of membership and to be eligible to referee at CANPL events.

Only Provincial level or higher referees, who are either retired or on sabbatical from competition, may apply for this membership.

If you are a referee and not a competing athlete, you may join the CANPL with a no provincial affiliation.
4. Complete True Sport Course HERE and download a copy of your CCES Certificate once complete.
5. Apply for membership on esportsdesk through your Provinces link below:

Prince Edward Island
* CANPL Membership is Non-Refundable and subject to approval.
6. Print or Screenshot your valid membership and completed True Sport course for proof when required to present at contests.
7. Sign up for a meet - Find meets on your Provinces Websites or in the Upcoming Events page.
Detailed Instructions to apply for registration using Esportsdesk:

1. Select your province of residence from the list above. You can compete in ANY province but must get your card through the province where you live.

2. Click on the Sign Up tab, and Sign Up For Myself.

3. Click on Memberships on the left.
Note: If you are renewing your membership you should see a blue RENEWAL button. It will appear if you are within 30 day of expiring.

4. Select your Membership type. All competitive memberships will show the provincial portion, the $80 CANPL portion will be automatically included. Types will vary from province to province, most will pick the first option, the Open membership. Click on Buy for Myself.

5. The next page will confirm your selections, ask you some questions (set by your province) and ask you to agree to your provincial waiver.

6. Next enter your credit card payment information, and other required info and complete the purchase.
7. PRINTING your membership card:
Click on Dashboard at the top right, then on Memberships on the left, and in the Canada Powerlifting section, you will see the "PRINT MEMBERSHIP CARD" button.
Some members are reporting that they had to log out and back in to get the Print button.

Membership cards are designed to fold over to fit in your wallet.
